May 4, 2012 WellPet LLC announced a voluntary recall of one recipe of Wellness dry dog food after being notified by Diamond Pet Foods regarding the presence of Salmonella in Diamond’s Gaston, South Carolina facility.

"All Wellness products are tested for Salmonella and all lots tested negative prior to shipping to customers. We are voluntarily taking this additional step to further safeguard our dogs and to put our customers’ minds at ease."

Wellpet LLC is voluntarily recalling the select products below. This voluntary recall is being done out of an abundance of caution because these products were produced at the facility that has been linked to recent recalls of Diamond brand dog foods. Some of the Diamond brand dog foods have tested positive for Salmonella.

The products involved in this voluntary recall are:

Wellness Complete Health Super5Mix Large Breed Puppy

15 lb. and 30 lb. bags and 5 oz. sample bags

Best By Dates of JAN 9 2013 through JAN 11 2013

Best by dates (lot codes) can be found on the back of the bag in the bottom right-hand corner.

No other WellPet recipes, sizes or brands of food are impacted by this voluntary recall.

The majority of Wellness natural products for pets are produced in WellPet's own modern state-of-the-art
manufacturing facility in Mishawaka, Indiana. WellPet no longer purchases any products from Diamond Pet Foods.

Pet owners who are unsure if the product they purchased is included in the recall, would like replacement product or have additional questions, may call us at (877) 227-9587 (Monday – Friday, 8:00 AM through 6:00 PM Eastern time and Saturday and Sunday, 9:00 AM through 5:00 PM Eastern time).

Nov 18, FDA Continues to Caution Dog Owners About Chicken Jerky Products

November 18, 2011 The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) is again cautioning consumers that chicken
jerky products for dogs (also sold as chicken tenders, strips or treats) may be associated with illness in dogs.
In the last 12 months, FDA has seen an increase in the number of complaints it received of dog illnesses associated
with consumption of chicken jerky products imported from China. These complaints have been reported to FDA by dog owners and veterinarians.

FDA issued a cautionary warning regarding chicken jerky products to consumers in September 2007 and a Preliminary Animal Health Notification in December of 2008. After seeing the number of complaints received drop off during the latter part of 2009 and most of 2010, the FDA is once again seeing the number of complaints rise to the levels of concern that prompted release of our earlier warnings.

Chicken jerky products should not be substituted for a balanced diet and are intended to be fed occasionally in
small quantities.

FDA is advising consumers who choose to feed their dogs chicken jerky products to watch their dogs closely for any or all of the following signs that may occur within hours to days of feeding the products:

- decreased appetite

- decreased activity

- vomiting

- diarrhea, sometimes with blood

- increased water consumption and/or increased urination.

If the dog shows any of these signs, stop feeding the chicken jerky product. Owners should consult their veterinarian if signs are severe or persist for more than 24 hours. Blood tests may indicate kidney failure (increased urea nitrogen and creatinine). Urine tests may indicate Fanconi syndrome (increased glucose). Although most dogs appear to recover, some reports to the FDA have involved dogs that have died.

The Canadian Veterinary Medical Association (CVMA) notified the American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA) on Wednesday, June 29 2011, that several veterinarians in Ontario have reported dogs with kidney disease associated with the consumption of chicken jerky treats manufactured in China. If you remember, this is very simlar to the problems reported in the United States in 2007 associated with petfoods from China.

The AVMA has not received any recent reports from U.S. veterinarians about potential toxicities from chicken jerky
treats, and they cannot determine at this time whether this problem has recurred or is ongoing in the U.S., or if it is isolated to Canada. There have been no recalls of any chicken jerky treat products associated with the Canadian complaints, and the AVMA is unaware of the brand names of the products involved.

For our dog-owning friends in Canada and the US, be cautious about feeding chicken jerky treats at this time.
Dogs affected with this type of kidney disease are often vomiting, lethargic (tired) and anorexic (not eating).
If you give chicken jerky treats to your dog(s) and any are showing these signs, please visit your veterinarian!
